NEW EU REGULATIONS Will Affect So Many SMEs
This is important. This is going to lots of individual proprietors
making products at home.
Please get your heads around this.
As from 11th July, the new EU regulations come into force
with regard to cosmetic products being made and sold.
These regulations will ensure that thousands of small
kitchen table businesses disappear, and craft fairs will
become half empty, as the ‘one man’ (or one lady) type of
operation closes down.
These include the people who
make handmade soaps, jars of cream, bath bombs, healingremedies, natural shampoos, etc. They will simply not be able to
afford to have the safety assessments, toxological reports and
testing carried out on each product that they make. You see -
this not only applies to each product – it applies to eachfragrance or derivation of that product. For example, if someone
makes lavender soap, lavender and rosemary soap and
lavender and tea tree soap, they need separate assessments on
each one.
When you bear in mind that each assessment costs about £2000 (for a new product,
starting from scratch) to a minimum of £500 for an existing product that needs anupgrade of the assessment, you can understand why so many will simply give up
their little kitchen table businesses!
The good news is many of these people can join a company like Wikaniko
and continue safely sell products of a similar type.
